How GC University Lahore GPA and CGPA are calculated
GC University Lahore has the most misread grading scale in Pakistani higher education, and it comes down to one row. A+ is the 4.0 grade, and a plain A is worth only 3.7. There is no A- at all. Almost every generic calculator assumes a GCU A is worth 4.00, and that overstates your CGPA on every single A you have earned.
GCU's Examination Regulations set the grading model per assessment type. Theory and practical courses are calculated on a relative scale, so the letter reflects your position in the class; projects, dissertations and internship reports are calculated on an absolute scale. Because most of your credit hours are theory courses, this calculator asks for the letter you were awarded rather than converting marks.
Below the top of the scale, GCU steps in .3/.7: B+ 3.3, B 3.0, B- 2.7, C+ 2.3, C 2.0, C- 1.7 and then D 1.0 before F. There is no D+, so the scale has ten graded levels in total.

A straight-A student across a 120-credit-hour degree, scored correctly against the common assumption that an A is 4.00.

GC University Lahore Grading Scale
GC University Lahore's grading formula from its Examination Regulations. Read the top two rows carefully: A+ carries 4.0 and a plain A carries 3.7. There is no marks column because theory and practical courses are graded on a relative scale.

Frequently Asked Questions
Is a GCU A really worth only 3.7?
Yes. GCU's Examination Regulations list A+ as 4.0 (Outstanding) and A as 3.7 (Excellent), with no A- on the scale. This is the opposite of most universities, where A is the top grade and A- sits at 3.67. Any calculator treating a GCU A as 4.00 overstates your CGPA by 0.3 for every A you hold.
Does GCU grade relatively or absolutely?
Both, depending on the assessment. The regulations state that results of theory and practical courses are calculated on a relative scale, while projects, dissertations and internship reports are calculated on an absolute scale. GCU's own definition of a grade reflects this: the letter awarded on the basis of marks obtained and the student's relative position in the class.
Is there a D+ grade at GCU?
No. Below C- (1.7, "Low Pass") the next grade is D (1.0, "Barely Pass"), then F. The scale has ten graded levels: A+, A, B+, B, B-, C+, C, C-, D and F. There is also an "In" marker for incomplete results.
What does an "In" grade mean?
Incomplete. It carries no numeric value and no grade points, so it is not offered as an option in the calculator. Leave an incomplete course out until it converts to a real letter grade.
Does an F count towards my GCU CGPA?
Yes, from both directions. An F is worth 0.0 grade points while its credit hours remain in the denominator. Enter it as a normal row with its real credit hours and the calculator handles the zero correctly.
How is my position for medals and honours decided?
On CGPA. GCU determines first position on the basis of CGPA, and students with a study break, probation or marks improvement are not considered for the award of a medal or position. That makes the accuracy of the A = 3.7 detail more than academic if you are near the top of your cohort.
